September is the best time to visit the Dolomites

We are often asked about the best time to visit the Dolomites: the first answer is always that any time is good to visit the Dolomites! The second answer is that September is a good time to visit Italian mountains and here below we listed the main reasons.

In Italy holidays are very popular in Summer especially in August, this means September is not overcrowded. There are fewer people on holidays therefore restaurants are not fully booked, you find parking more easily in Innichen – of course our clients can have the parking lot reserved.

When you visit the Dolomites in September there are no crowds at the mountain huts, like the Rifugio Baranci hut and the Three Peaks huts; September is also a good time to visit the Lake of Braies, one of the most instagrammed places in Italy, and the popular town of Cortina d’Ampezzo.  Generally speaking September is the best time to visit for relaxing and finding peace.

What we like of September are the colors: they are the perfect match of the bright colors of Summer and the warm colors of the upcoming Autumn. Mother Nature starts preparing for the new season and the woods are full of life. The colors of the Dolomites outside of our B&B rooms in San Candido are breathtaking, as well as the sunsets at the Lake of Braies and the dawns over the Three Peaks.

In addition the weather on the Dolomites in September is perfect: days are sunny and warm, but not too hot. In Innichen rainy days of September are about 6 and temperatures go from 18°C to 7°C. Last but not least, the calendar of events in September is still rich. Below we listed the major events in Innichen:

• 7 September 2019 3rd Eroica delle Dolomiti, that is a famous cycling race with vintage bikes to rediscover the pleasure of biking;
• from 7th to 21st September the HEUGABEL market: this is the market of local artisans and farmers. On September 7th and 8th there is the market in the main square of San Candido, then on September 21st there is the Children Feast. For all the period there guided tours and open-days to farms, shops and workshops. Details here;
• 22nd September there is the antiques market;
• 29th September the sacred music concert for the 1250 years of Innichen.
