What To Do On A Winter Holiday If You Can’t Ski

The mountains in winter are magical even without skiing! A winter holiday in the Dolomites is made for relaxation, winter sports and Christmas markets. The atmosphere in winter in the mountains of the Dolomites is truly fascinating, teeming with lights and enchanting views, all enveloped in white snow which normally falls abundantly in this period.

If, like most of our guests, you love the mountains in winter, but are not a skier, here are 4 ideas + 1 to enjoy a winter holiday in the Dolomites without skiing!

Walking around town and warming up with a hot drink

characteristic and picturesque, at times almost bewitching. Therefore we recommend you take a walk around the center of San Candido/Innichen, do some window shopping or admire the various historical buildings and then stop for a hot drink in one of the many typical cafes on the main street. A slice of typical strudel wouldn’t be a bad idea either!

Enjoy typical fare in a mountain hut

One of the best things to do in winter is to reach a mountain hut and taste the typical specialties of the Dolomites around a stove or fireplace while looking out at the winter wonderland. You can choose from a variety of Italian or Austrian dishes.

Here you will find our recommendations of where to eat in San Candido.

Try out some Cross Country Skiing

This is the area for cross-country skiers and those who have never tried should definitely do this experience at least once in a lifetime because the breathtaking surroundings are well worth it. Around San Candido, you will find 250km of trails to choose from.

Climb up high to see the view

What is the most emotional experience to try in the Dolomites? The views surrounding you on all sides. That’s why one of the things to try is to hop on a gondola or chairlift to reach the top of the mountains and admire the magnificent views below. We recommend you try the Baranci lift close to our home or the larger and higher Monte Elmo.

Visit the Christmas Markets

Last but not less important for a winter holiday is a tour of the Christmas Markets of South Tyrol. The Christmas vibe, the smell of cinnamon, and the white snow help to make these markets truly magical. An experience to live at least once.
