Best Events in 2019 in San Candido in the Dolomites
The new year has just started and we are ready to welcome you and your family at our B&B in the Dolomite! To inspire your next Italian holidays we selected the best 2019 events in San Candido and in the Dolomites.
1250 years San Candido
In 769 it was founded the Monastery of San Candido, that became an important religious center in Val Pusteria and then one important city in this area of the Dolomites. This year our town Innichen celebrates 1250 since its foundation and 2019 is going to be the perfect time to visit San Candido and the surroundings. As a matter of fact there are going to be concerts, guided tours, concerts, exhibits and workshops till December. From the 1250 years San Candido official calendar we selected these events for you:
- 24.05 the long night of churches: music and live performances in the churches and museums of San Candido from 6pm to 11pm
- 1.06 official birthday party for San Candido
- 14.07 costume parade: a colorful parade with many original and historic costumes
- 29.09 the 1250 years concert of sacred music: a big concert with several choirs, wind instruments, string instruments and four organs playing together
Winter in the Dolomites Italy
Night-skiing on Mount Baranci
The Mount Baranci is the ski area in San Candido right out of your window when you stay in our cozy B&B in the Dolomite. During Winter time the ski area is open by night every Tuesday and Friday from 7pm to 10pm; until 19.03 you ski by night and go sledding in the atmosphere of Ski World Cup, plus the Rifugio Baranci is opened for dinner. Dolomiti Balloon Festival
Until January 13th look up in ski and see the air balloons flying over the Dolomite: this is the Dolomites Balloon Festival and air balloons take off from Dobbiaco. Information and details here.

CaSTA 2019
From February 17th to 22nd there are the Ski World Championships of Mountain Troops, in Italian Campionati Sciistici delle Truppe Alpine (CaSTA) in San Candido. Not to be missed the inaugural parade with all the national teams on 17.02 and the night torchlight procession on 21.02. The official calendar here.
Sleigh experience at Dobbiaco Lake
Every Thursday, Saturday and Sunday you can experience a ride by sleigh at the Dobbiaco Lake. The tours depart at 10am, 11.30am, 1pm, 2.30pm and 4pm in front of the Nordic Arena ski stadium; the ride costs 50€ up to 4 people, but for more details click here.
Spring in the Dolomites
Easter Egg Hunt
In San Candido there is going to be the largest Easter Egg Hunt of the Dolomites! From April 6th to 22th you have to find all the pink eggs hided in the windows of the shops and store of San Candido; winners will receive discounts and coupons. These activity is perfect for your family holidays in the Dolomites! Find more info here.
Flower blooming in Val Fiscalina
The little Fiscalina Valley has been nominated one of the most beautiful in the world and we can assure you it is, especially during spring time when all flowers bloom. This is just a fantastic time to visit the Dolomites between late April mid June.
Summer in the Dolomites
One-Thousand-Choir Festival
From June 19th to 22nd the Dolomites are the stage for concerts and live performances of choirs from all over the world. In five days of festival there are many performances both at open air – by the mountain lakes, in medieval castles and in the mountain shelters of Alta Pusteria – and in concert hall. Adventure Outdoor Fest
From June 27th to 29th there is the Adventure Outdoor Fest; it’s one of the largest festivals of outdoor sports and activities in the Dolomites and it organizes workshops, exhibits and many live activities. Check the official site here.
San Candido in Festa
This is going to be the 15th edition of the traditional Feast of San Candido: from July 12th to 14th food trucks with local specialties, live music and entertainment for all.
The Gnomes Village
This Summer is going to be inaugurated the new children area at Mount Baranci: it’s called the Gnomes Village and is a large area with wooden houses, hanging slides and ropes where children can play safe. The inaugural ceremony is on July 1st.
2 Euro Days at the Three Peaks Dolomites
The Park of Three Peaks Dolomites every year organizes few days when you buy the round trip with mountain cable car and lifts for just 2 euro per person per journey. Generally these dates are from June to September and are not still out for 2019, but keep an eye on this post because we will update it.
Gustav Mahler Music Weeks
Every year the city of Dobbiaco celebrate the German composer Gustav Mahler by organizing the Gustav Mahler Music Weeks: this big music festival includes concerts, lectures and workshops with international musicians celebrating Mahler, who used to love spending his Summer holidays in the Dolomites. OLALA Street Theater Festival
For one week the Austrian city of Lienz becomes a big stage for street artists from all over the world. This is the OLALA International Street Theater Festival and takes place from July 21st to 28th. The rich program counts street performers of any kind like jugglers, fire-eaters, dancers, one-man bands and much more.

The Arts and Crafts Market Heugabel
The HEUGABEL is a very typical arts and crafts markets in San Candido. It’s on September 8t and 9th and there are local farmers selling their food, local artisans selling and making their goods, as well as a bunch of Austrian artisans with their traditional goods.
Foliage at Braies Lake
The Lake of Braies is one of the most visited places in the Dolomites, because it’s one of the most charming lakes in Italy. In Autumn, when the leaves turn yellow and red around the lake, the Braies Lake is gorgeous! We recommend you check our tips to visit the Lake of Braies out of the crowds.
