Room vith view in San Candido

Zenana Suites in San Candido: Meet Anastasia Suite

The rooms in our boutique hotel in the center of San Candido are all named after a famous woman: historical, artistic or legendary. These are the women who make up  our House of Women. Each woman has been chosen for a specific reason. I’d like to introduce the Suite Anastasia.

Why Anastasia?

Princess Anastasia - Suite San Candido

I have always been intrigued and dismayed by the story of the Romanov family. Anastasia was the fourth daughter of the last tsar of Russia and, like the rest of her family, she was executed during the Russian Revolution. She belongs to that category of famous people who were or are believed to have survived their death. Her story is both bewitching and bewildering.

One of the first couples to sleep in this suite were actually from the Russian city of Ekaterinburg where the Romanov family were executed. It was sheer coincidence that they were given this room. Or was it? The next day they were both adamant that they had e very real ghostly encounter during the night. Was it Anastasia? If so, she has not been back but would be more than welcome to peacefully haunt our home.

Anastasia’s look

The entryway of this room features a Murano glass chandelier. This precious vintage piece is made from hand-blown glass in one of the famous glass workshops of Venice. Two large leather armchairs that followed us from South Africa via the Cinque Terre sit beneath this ceiling light, as did the Persian carpets.

Bathroom with a view

This bathroom has been lovingly renewed using only the best products. The walls are lined in stone and the floors are antique wooden boards. The large chromotherapy shower is a true haven to relax and refresh ones senses. The unusual door of this bathroom is an old stable door framed by more antique wooden boards.

This suite has a magnificent view of the Dolomites from all it’s windows and especially from the cosy reading nook. One can lounge on the large sofa with a good book or just gaze out at the view or the starry sky.

This room is a haven of peace and tranquility, so if Anastasia is here I hope she will be at peace here with us in the room we dedicate to her memory.
