The new decade has just started, and we listed the min events in San Candido and surroundings. Last year was the 1250 th birthday of San Candido, but 2020 is going to be a year rich in festivals, sports events, markets, music and much more.
The white Winer
Night skiing on Mount Baranci in San Candido
Until 13.03 every Tuesday and Friday you may ski by night from 7 pm to 10 pm: the slopes are illuminated as per the World Championship and you can feel like a champion. In the same days sledding is possible, as well as the Rifugio Baranci; if you want to have dinner there we recommend you cook in advance. Our B&B in San Candido is located just a few minutes walking from the ski lift.
Carnival torchlight parade
The Ski school of San Candido organizes two Carnival torchlight parades open to everybody: the only requirement is to have a Carnival costume. The parades are on February 20th and 25th from 4.30 pm and 6 pm. Find more details here.
Helmissimo
On March 21st is time for Helmissimo: the longest slalom giant it the Val Pusteria! The length is about 4.5 km, 104 gates departing from near the Monte Elmo mountain station at 2,030m and finishing at 1,125m at the Monte Elmo Versciaco valley station. Read more details here.

Easter Eggs Hunt
From 28.03 to 13.04 you can participate in the biggest hunt of Easter Eggs in the Dolomites! According to the local tradition, the Easter Bunny hides his eggs all over the town of San Candido: into shops, shop windows, doors and other clever places in Innichen. Everyone can participate in the Easter Eggs Hunt: go to the Tourist Office and ask to enroll. You can win a weekend in San Candido, as well as many other valuable prices.

Sunday Market San Candido
Once per month in San Candido there is the Sunday market: from 8 am to 2 pm you can go shopping at this local market. It’s held in Piazza del Magistrato/Mercato Vecchio on February 19th, April 7th, July 7th, September 1st, October 16th, November 14th, and December 1st. On May 25th and June 2nd is held in the parking lot in front of the Baranci Ski Lift.
Flower blooming in Val Fiscalina
We mark the Spring in Val Fiscalina on the calendar every year: we think it’s one of the most beautiful Spring moments in the Dolomites. This hidden gem of the Dolomites is a tiny valley that every year offers an explosion of colorful flowers during Springtime.
Flower Market in Sexten
On May 21st from 8 am to 5 pm don’t miss the colorful market of flowers in the near town of Sexten.
The sounds of Summer
One-Thousand-Choir Festival
Every summer San Candido and its surroundings become the background of the impressive One-Thousand-Choir Festival. It’s held from June 24th to 28th thanks to the performance of choirs from all over the world. During the festival, there are concerts, conferences, performances in San Candido, but also nearby in the mountains, at lakes and other impressive places in Val Pusteria. Gustav Mahler Music Weeks
Every year Dobbiaco, or Toblach as they say here, celebrates the great 19th musician Gustav Mahler, who stayed here between 1908 and 1910; for three weeks, between Jul and August, Dobbiaco is the center of conferences, concerts, workshops, and meetings focused on music. The opening concert is held on July 18th, the full program here.
OLALA Festival
Another unmissable appointment in the Dolomites is the OLALA International Theater Art Festival: from July 28th to August 1st hundreds of performances of the best street artists, magicians and clowns will perform in the streets of Lienz. On July 31st the OLALA Festival is held in the city center of San Candido.
Sunrise and sunset on top of the Dolomites
Get overwhelmed by the beauty of the Dolomites at sunrise and sunset. Every Tuesday from July 8th and September 10thyou can admire the sunrise on top of Mount Elmo – details here. On September 5th there is the 4th edition of the vintage cycling race, Eroica delle Dolomiti! Check out more information here.
HEUGABEL, the farmers and handcrafts market
On September 12th and 13th there is the traditional HEUGABEL market: for two days the city center of San Candido becomes the open air workshops of local farmers and artisans, together with a bunch of Tyrolean artisans. All information here.
Foliage in Braies Lake
Autumn is maybe the most impressive time of the year to visit the Lake of Braies: the gold leaves make beautiful reflections on the most instagrammable lake of the Dolomites.
Dolomiti Gourmet Festival
From October 9th to 11th Dobbiaco becomes the center of delicious and gourmet food where you can discover more about local products and local cuisine.
