WALKING OR HIKING ALL YEAR ROUND
Choose a short, leisurely walk in the Dolomites along the many streams or amidst the emerald green meadows, or a challenging trek to reach a towering peak amidst a high lunar landscape.
Don’t let the season discourage you. In Winter the paths are in perfect condition, be it for walking or cross-country skiing. South Tyrol is Italy’s number one destination for cross-country skiing with over 200km of tracks with spectacular views of the Dolomites.
In Spring the valleys are filled with wild flowers and herbs, and in autumn the golden colors are a stunning sight. In summer you can hire a bike and pedal to your heart’s content, with a vast choice of routes ranging from easy family tracks to hard mountain trails. Or follow a stream on foot on the search for the many enchanting mountain lakes dotted around the whole area. Stopping along the way for some invigorating Kneipp therapy in the crystal icy water for which this region is renowned and has been through the ages.
Visit one of the larger towns if the silence of nature gets too much for you. This is a very historic area with many important museums as well as many WWI relics, so you can get your fill of local culture between or while you are hiking.
FEELING LAZY?
The bus and train service in the Val Pusteria is very efficient. You can hop on a bus and get off if something draws your attraction and catch the next one as they run very often.
